Kurruru Performance Troupes
The public often comes into contact with Kurruru through one of our deadly performance troupes; Kurruru's Dance Ensemble and Kurruru's Traditional Boys Dance Group. These troupes receive invitations to perform across Adelaide and around South Australia at welcomes, openings, festivals, launches and community events.
The performers in each of the troupes are now emerging as the next generation of highly talented young Indigenous artists and performed. Past members of the Kurruru Dance Ensemble have now taken up study with the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA) Dance Academy.
Kurruru Dance EnsemblePresenting a selection of contemporary dance informed by traditional movement and forms but interprited into new work. The Dance Ensemble brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancers from a range of ages from across Adelaide to perform a range of work that explores ideas of Aboriginality, Identity and Pride as Indigenous people.
Kurruru's Binnanendi Traditional BoysTraditional performance by Kurruru's young men and boys. Aged from 10 to 14 years, Kurruru's Boys Traditional Dance Group present dances of the Kaurna people - the traditional owners of the Adelaide plains. A informed by teachings from Kaurna dancers, Kurruru's Boys Traditional Dance group represents the next generation of knowledge bearers and cultural custodians.
