A feud between two families, fuelled by the joint suicide of a young couple many years earlier, has spiralled over generations leaving destruction in its wake, for people from both sides with loss of their community and broken identity and culture. Amid this backdrop, history repeats itself and another teenage couple find themselves falling in love. From this love a new season comes – a flower of conciliation grows - a chance to heal the wounds of the past begins. Minno and Medika was a divised work, developed by young performers through a series of creative developments focused on exploring ideas of culture, community and history. An initiative of Kurruru's SAIYWAT youth leadership program, Minno & Medika grew from the ideas of its cast through a creative development camp held in Pt. Augusta in April 2009.
The ideas that emerged from here were further explored by local Aboriginal writer Alexis West who worked with Director, Nazaree Dickerson to take the ideas into a working script for performance. Bringing together a cast of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders both professional and community performers, led by local performers Natasha Wanganeen and Felix Kerry Minno and Medika was performed as a work-in-progress allowing the cast as well as the Writer and Director an opportunity to see the ideas of the work brought to life.
